About me
Hi there! I'm James Grubbs and currently teach as an Intervention Specialists at Springfield High School located in Akron, Ohio. I'm 31 years old, married to the most amazing woman one could meet, my wife Tara, where we have 3 furry kids (Simmie the English Bulldog and Ali & Mayweather my wonder cats) and we are currently expecting a daughter baby Brooklyn Marie Grubbs around August 15th, 2012.
I was born on May 5th, 1981 (Cinco de Mayo) in Akron and spent most of my life living in the Springfield Local School District in Akron, Ohio. I was very fortunate to obtain a great education by great educators through the Springfield School District. Besides my highlights obtaining an education, I also was a 4 year letter winner with Spartan Baseball and a 3 year letter winner in Spartan Football. I graduated from Springfield High School in 99''.
After high school, I went to Walsh University to major in Education as well as play on the Walsh baseball team. Injuries kept me from playing baseball, but my brain kept me focused on my academics. Walsh University was an amazing experience where I spent my time with a lot of amazing people. I am very blessed to have had the experiences I had there. I graduated in 04'' in a bachelor degree in AYA Language Arts.
Right out of my college experience, I was hired in at the Brown Local School District (Also know as Malvern) where I spent 2 wonderful years teaching with such an amazing community. I was hired in as Title 1 tutor but eventually became an Intervention Specialist at the middle school. Malvern was special to me because it was the same school I performed my student teaching at! I also was the middle school wrestling coach in the 04/05 season, Varsity assistant in the 05/06 season, and head coach of the middle school track team throughout the 04-06 seasons. It would be very, very hard to sum up my experience at Malvern, but what the school district taught me was when you work hard, it pays off, and when you follow your heart, it will always lead you to the right places.
After Hurricane Katrina hit which raised price gases to $4, I made a job change "closer to home." I had many memories at Malvern, but the next part of my life was at The Leap Program in Green, Ohio. The Leap Program was an alternative program for many of the local school districts around northeastern ohio. I spent 5 years there working as an Intervention Specialists. The core values at The Leap Program were simple: Leading, Empowering, Affirming, and Progressive. The 5 years I spent under the supervision of George Linberger and Keith Henderson felt like 10 years of experience. I couldn't thank them enough for the knowledge, confidence, and guidance in my career as an educator. I also thank my "teammates" as we pushed each other to be the best educators we could be.
In the 2010/11 school year, my dream came true as I really came back "home" when I was hired in as an Intervention Specilist Tutor at Springfield High School. My dream of teaching began in the Springfield School District, and as I would say, "I finally made it!" Where do I begin talking about working in such a great school district?! Springfield is amazing. Our leadership in our schools are amazing, my coworkers are amazing, and our students are amazing! This is the district I dreamed about teaching in, but now this is the district I dream about building an amazing future in. Springfield is my heart and soul, it's what lead me to amazing places and back. We are "building" for the future, and the future is going to be bright! But I can't wait to talk about Today's future in the years to come!!
